The village of Capoliveri
Capoliveri is one of the most charming villages on the Island of Elba, a place that encapsulates the beauty of nature, the charm of history and the energy of summer life. Rising on a hill that dominates the south-east coast, Capoliveri offers breathtaking views: from every corner of the village, one can admire glimpses of the crystal-clear sea, the bays below, and, on clear days, the nearby islands on the horizon.Walking through its narrow stone streets and medieval arches, one can still breathe in the ancient soul of the mining town. The presence of the magnetite mines, once the beating heart of the local economy, is witnessed everywhere: in the stories of the inhabitants, in the simple and authentic architecture and in the Museum of the Old Workshop, the starting point for guided tours to the underground mines of Ginevro, the largest in Europe.
During the summer, Capoliveri comes alive every evening: open-air concerts, theatrical performances, literary meetings and folkloristic events transform the main square and the charming alleys into an open-air stage. The Festa dell'Uva (Grape Festival), the Leggenda dell'Innamorata (Lovers' Legend) and the Festa del Cavatore (Quarryman's Festival) are just some of the celebrations that tell of the village's deep identity.
Behind the village lies the Capoliveri Bike Park, one of the most renowned in Europe, with over 100 km of trails through pine forests, mines and spectacular views of the sea. It is a paradise for mountain bike lovers, the scene of the legendary Legend Cup every year.
During the summer season, a convenient shuttle bus connects Capoliveri with the main beaches below, allowing everyone to experience the magic of the town even without a car, from sunset until late at night.
